2 Socks on 1 Long Circular - Heel Flap

By now, you should have cast on for both socks, knitted some ribbing if any and knitted the cuff of the socks to the desired length. It is time to knit the heel flaps.

So, let's recap. The total number of stitches for each sock is split in half on both ends of the needle. I have knitted about 1 inch of ribbing followed by the cuff pattern till the desired length. So far, I've been knitting both socks, row by row, simultaneously.

Here is what it looks like, needles in home position, ready for the heel flap.

The heel is worked back and forth on just half of the stitches for both socks. The other half will sit on the cable and will later become the instep stitches. I will be working on both heels at the same time. I will be using the slip stitch heel flap pattern.

Heel flap pattern stitch:
Row 1: *sl1, k1; repeat from *
Row 2: sl1, p till end
Repeat these 2 rows till heel flap is desired length

  • From home position, pull out back needle and begin on Sock A by knitting Row 1 of heel flap pattern.

  • When you get to the end of Sock A, drop yarn, pick up yarn for Sock B and continue knitting Row 1 of heel flap pattern.

  • When you're done, DO NOT RETURN TO HOME POSITION.

  • Turn work and start Row 2 of heel flap pattern, working across Sock B, dropping yarn and continue working Sock A

  • Repeat heel flap pattern how many number of times the pattern calls for.
